ETL is the most dynamic safety certification mark in North America. Its history can be traced back to the electrical testing laboratory established by Thomas Edison in 1896. It has a wide popularity and recognition in North America. The ETL logo is the exclusive logo of Intertek Intertek Group, the world's leading quality and safety organization. The product representatives who obtain the ETL logo meet the mandatory standards in North America and can successfully enter the North American market for sales.

brief introduction

ETL SEMKO is a part of Intertek Testing Services Co., Ltd., which is the world's largest inspection organization for products and daily necessities. It has 240 laboratories and 469 offices in 93 countries in North America, Europe and Asia. ETL SEMKO provides product safety testing and certification, EMC testing, product performance testing, and registration of quality management systems in many industries, such as medicine, HVAC, appliances, telecommunications, aviation, automation, semiconductor, building materials, energy generation systems, etc.

Any electrical, mechanical or electromechanical product with ETL inspection mark indicates that it has been tested and meets relevant industry standards. Each industry has different test standards, so you must consult with professionals for specific product requirements. ETL inspection marks are widely used in cable products, indicating that relevant tests have been passed.

In most parts of the United States, approval of electrical products is mandatory. ETL refers to ETL Testing Laboratories Inc. ETL's listed products are recognized by the "Authorities Having Jurisdiction", which can be considered as "approved".

Factory inspection

ETL needs to carry out factory inspection before issuing the certificate, and then will carry out follow-up factory inspection from time to time every quarter. In addition to factory inspection fees, ETL also needs to pay certificate license fees quarterly. If necessary, the inspector can witness the retest of the product or the laboratory test after sampling. The licensee must sign a statutory contract (service agreement) with ETL, which clearly stipulates the responsibility of the manufacturer and the conditions for continuous ETL listing and the use of ETL marks.

Application documents

There are two ways to obtain ETL certificate until 2013, one is to transfer through CB test report, or apply directly. The required documents are as follows:

1. Application Form

2. Copy of CB test certificate (not required for direct application)

3. Copy of CB test report (not required for direct application)

4. Samples

5. Other relevant test results and product data, such as product manuals, photos, component lists, etc.

(If it is transferred through CB report, difference test is required)

American certification

Certification mark

ETL is the abbreviation of American Electrical Testing Laboratories. ETL laboratory was founded by American inventor Edison in 1896 and enjoys a high reputation in the United States and the world. Like UL and CSA, ETL can issue ETL certification marks according to UL standards or American national standards, and can also issue composite certification marks according to UL standards or American national standards and CSA standards or Canadian standards. The "us" at the bottom right indicates that it is applicable to the United States, and the "c" at the bottom left indicates that it is applicable to Canada. If there are "us" and "c" at the same time, they are applicable to both countries.

Application criteria

Any electrical, mechanical or electromechanical product with the ETL mark indicates that the product has met the minimum requirements of the generally recognized American and Canadian product safety standards, and it has been tested to conform to the relevant product safety standards.

ETL also requires that its production site has been inspected, and the applicant agrees to conduct regular follow-up inspection on its factory thereafter to ensure that products always meet this requirement.

Basic test method of ETL

1) Leakage current test: the sample used for leakage current test has not been tested before the test

2) Normal temperature rise: test method: thermoelectric coupling: 24-30AWG thermoelectric coupling is required in the standard (30AWG currently used in the laboratory)

3) Leakage current test after tide state: general test conditions: T=32+/- 2 ° C, RH=88 ± 2% Duration: 48 hours after completion, take it out for leakage current test Test condition: T=20~30 ° C, RH=93+/- 3%

4) Withstand voltage test: generally, products without double insulation and grounding requirements: 1000 V/1 minute (the target voltage climbing time of the equipment is set as 5 seconds, the cut-off current is set as 8.3 mA, and then it is kept for 1 minute under the target voltage)

Scope of application

company

If the product meets the relevant product safety standards after testing, it means that the manufacturer agrees to receive strict regular inspection to ensure the consistency of product quality, which can be sold to the markets of the United States and Canada.

FAQs about ETL column name flag Why does the manufacturer choose ETL column name flag

Manufacturers hope to have multiple choices to meet their procurement needs, and test and certification service providers are also an important part of the selection. Is the ETL listing mark legally equivalent to UL and CSA listing marks

Products sold in the United States are required by law to be tested and certified in a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) designated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The function of NRTL is to provide independent evaluation, testing and certification services for various electric, gas and fuel products.

The ETL listing mark affixed to the product indicates that the product has met the basic requirements of the specified safety standards. In addition, the sign also indicates that the manufacturer's factory complies with various compliance measures and is subject to regular follow-up inspection to verify whether the products have continuous consistency.

What is NRTL nationally recognized NRTL? It is an independent laboratory recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the United States to test products according to the requirements of applicable product safety standards (such as the product safety standards formulated by Meihua UL and other standard setting organizations).

What does the ETL listing mark mean? To put it simply, the ETL listing mark indicates that your product has passed the test approved by the NRTL of the United States and the SCC of Canada, meets the recognized national standards, and also meets the most basic requirements for product sales or distribution. For dealers, retailers and customers, the ETL logo is a guarantee that the product meets safety standards and has been tested and certified by a third party.

Does the retailer accept the ETL listing mark? Yes. Because the ETL listing mark is a widely accepted and recognized proof of product conformity, retailers have no reason not to accept the ETL listing mark on products. Individual retailers or distributors do not accept products with ETL listing marks, probably because of market misinformation - it is this misinformation that misleads some manufacturers that they cannot choose partners for third-party testing.

The ETL column name flag is unfamiliar. There is no standard formula to let users better understand the ETL column name flag. The correct method varies according to the background, environment and other details of the specific situation. Some users only need to show them that other products with ETL listing logo and respected by everyone can be found in the Listed Product Catalog to eliminate their concerns. Some users may insist that the UL mark is the only acceptable proof of product compliance, which requires more comprehensive explanation of the real legal requirements implied in third-party product safety testing. Tell them about the NRTL program, and explain to users that the product safety certification program includes the same testing, listing, labeling and tracking inspection services as UL.

Which countries accept the ETL logo? In the United States and Canada, the ETL logo is a widely accepted product compliance certificate.

Whether the whole North America region accepts the ETL listing mark. Because the ETL listing mark is a widely recognized and accepted proof that the product complies with the safety standards, retailers, inspectors, and departments with jurisdiction (AHJ) all accept the ETL listed products.

History of ETL column name flags

"ETL" has a history of more than 100 years. When manufacturers apply for ETL listing marks for their products, the letters "ETL" bring them a history of innovation, influence and independence. In fact, the original Electrical Testing Laboratory (ETL) was established by Thomas Edison in 1896.

The electrical testing laboratory was established to solve the safety and performance problems of lamps. Edison's idea is to provide consumers with guarantees through a variety of product performance and safety tests. The basic principles of the third party lamp test method initiated by Edison are still used today, such as the monitoring of lamps and bulbs by experts to determine their service life, luminous intensity, and whether they will burn or explode.
